Charla Ray Interior Design

Sometimes you are looking for some extra inspiration to get that specific look that you want for your projects and this is the intention of this weekly series.

See the featured designers with their latest projects and leave us your comments! We’d love to know your opinion.

This project is with a past client whom we had already done a whole home refresh for a few years ago. They live on a beautiful lake, and the opportunity arose for them recently to purchase an old cottage, needing a total renovation, which was situated on one of the most fabulous lots on the whole lake. I happily jumped on board to work with them again.

This project is an extensive remodel involving raising the roof, so most every wall came down (see included picture). The kitchen being the heart of the home, I wanted to start the design here and let it inform the rest.

I proposed to the client an updated take on shaker cabinetry with stiles and rails running around full door/drawer stacks rather than individual doors and the rendering really aided in showing the cleaner feel this detail lent. The client also loves the look of soapstone, so I proposed a granite called Negresco

honed which has a remarkably similar look to soapstone, but the durability properties of granite and larger slab sizes.

Other details the rendering helped communicate were the rift oak frame detail around the range area, the copper accent on the range hood, and rift oak interiors of the open upper cabinets.

What I like most about this design is that it is clean and uncluttered, but there is so much thoughtful detail that elevates it. The lake view out the kitchen window is really the main feature and the rest of the design works together as a great supporting cast.
