“This property has such a rich history. It’s what we call in the UK “listed”. It means that it’s has a historical influence that needs to be preserved for future generations. The works we are going to do on it need to preserve that rich history. It has previously served as a coach house for horses, a workshop and a home for the house keeper of the main estate of the building. I’m it’s new life it will be joined together with the stone barns next to it and act as a guest house for those visiting the family who want or need a little more privacy.

The client bought the coach house along with the main estate a few years ago and is looking forward to giving this building a brand new lease of life.

Inspired by the details of the current house we swapped out the stable style doors in favour of huge crittal doors that pivot. These doors replicate the crittal that was used in an earlier renovation of the property in the 80s to the back side of the house. It helps to ground the property by providing lights into what will be the main drawing room.

The colours of the new windows was inspired by nature and bringing a softer touch to the overall design. The client is a keen lover of gardening and so we wanted to create a garden that would be easily maintained and provide a beautiful space to relax.

This project is all about detail, there are so easily missed. The roof of the main property actually houses protected bats and for this reason all external lighting is low level and shaded. This means the bats (which are a protected species) won’t be bothered by external lighting. The glass work joining the two properties is designed to be an minimal as possible allowing the classic design of the heritage property to shine through. We cannot wait to bring this design to life. It will have been a 4 year project by the time it’s finished and a definite labour of love on all sides.”
